I am a B1 Spanish student in US, and during my last class my teacher implored us to never say "baja" to describe someone's height as it means "retarded" in the derogatory sense to native Spanish speakers. How frequent is this occurrence?? In the US we are frequently taught alto/a for tall, bajo/a for short.
